The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in comprised of nine divisions and 45 districts covering the entire United States and more than 91 foreign countries.
In the U.S. the Corps is divided into eight regional divisions. Each division is further divided in to subordinate districts. Division and district boundaries, for the most part, are determined by watersheds. The districts are the operational level of the Corps, seeing to the day-to-day activities in all of the missions areas.
In addition to the divisions and district, the Corps operates four unique, world-class laboratory facilities, researching everything from water resources development, to environmental restoration, to force protection.
Finally, the Corps operates two specialized, non-geographic centers to perform work beyond the scope of other Corps organization.
Headquarters
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters, located in Washington, DC, creates policy and plans future direction of all the other Corps organizations.
Division/District Boundaries
US MapThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has eight divisions (also called Regional Business Centers) throughout the U.S. with 41 district offices in the U.S., Asia and Europe, and field offices throughout the world. The USACE divisions and districts follow watershed boundaries, not state boundaries, so a state could be divided into several divisions/districts. In addition, a 9th provisional division with three districts was activated January 25, 2004, to oversee operations in Iraq. Many of the Corps districts manage projects for the military. The Map of Military Boundaries (link to the left) shows the military boundaries and the division and district offices that manage the military projects. Unlike Civil Works boundaries, Military boundaries follow state lines.
